As you will have noticed unless you’re the least observant creature to have ever drawn breath, I’ve moved this site over to Wordpress and it all looks better. In fact, this is the first time ashens.com has worked properly in last 4 years!
Possibly some things will be broken or otherwise not working properly. Drop me a line using the CONTACT link at the top of the page if you’re suffering such imperfection.
(Also, I’ve finally phased out all references to the original “Birdhouse” site name. It’s a bit like when Action Force became G.I. Joe.)
At last, here’s my new thing! Produced for the BBC by Hat Trick Productions (Father Ted, Have I Got News For You, Worst Week of My Life) and directed by the ever-lovin’ Al Campbell (Screen Wipe, News Wipe, The Photocopier), it’s Ashen’s Tech Dump!
Want to see another episode? Well okay then, fella:
More Christmas tat my girlfriend bought last year? Why yes!
In moaning news, I’m getting really irritated with my HD camcorder. It doesn’t reach enough of a wide angle and the autofocus is slower than a sloth on thorazine, but worst of all the microphone is right on top of the damn thing – which is directly under my face as I film. As a result it picks up ever breath I take and it sounds like I’m hyperventilating or something. But on the plus side the sound and picture quality are fantastic, and it was fairly cheap, so maybe I should just shut up.
(I did buy an external radio mic from Ebay for a few pounds. It sounds like I’m broadcasting from a wind tunnel. Possibly a review will follow.)
I’ve got LOADS of stuff coming in the new year. Another Poundland Special is imminent, my BBC Comedy Extra project should be released in a few weeks (announcement soon), I’m putting together another Terrible Old Games You’ve Probably Never Heard Of, and Trailer Club 70 is being completely rewritten for a relaunch. And that’s just early January. Corks!
1. At release the Supervision was about half the price of the Gameboy. The games were also about half as much as Gameboy games.
2. The R-Type rip-off for the Supervision is actually called “Alien”.
3. The Motorbike game is apparently a complete rip-off of a Gameboy game called Motocross Maniacs.
4. Turns out the Gameboy Pocket screen was slightly larger than that of the original Gameboy. Sorry.
5. I forgot to mention that it takes 4 AA batteries.
Ah, the joys of obscure technology you can’t find details about.
OTHER NEWS! I recently finished filming a pilot for the BBC Comedy Extra website. It involved lots of talented people who pooled their resources to make me look far less incompetent than usual. More details soon.
